Impart quality education : Chamling to teachers

SIKKIM CHIEF Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling has urged teachers to impart quality education to students right from preliminary level to enable them to reap benefits from the ongoing ecnomic development in the state. "The teachers have a responsibility to create skilled and quality manpower in the state and the process should begin right at the primary education level" he said at the function in Gangtok on Saturday on the occasion of teacher's day.

 There should be total enrollment of students in the schools and an atmosphere of competetion be inculated among the wards there in order to achieve academics excellence and good results in the annual examinations, he said. Stating that the teachers profession requires commitment on full-time basis, chamling sought to disapprove of the general tendency among a large number of them to treat their jobs lightly and said those teachers who were unable to contribute positively could quit their jobs. 

The Chief Minister also outlined his government's initiatives to tone up the education sector in the state and said that his government has provisioned 20 per cent of its annual budget for the purpose. It has been decided to provide mandatory training to all primary school teachers for which the teachers' training institutes were set up in the state, he said.
